Bess Hughes specializes in government relations and political affairs as a Director at The Petrizzo Group. She advises clients on a range of defense and technology issues while positioning them before the Administration and the House and Senate Republican Conferences. Bess provides insightful legislative reporting, strategic political counsel and bold approaches to achieve public policy objectives. She serves as a valued kitchen cabinet member to a range of Republican officeholders and candidates.
Prior to joining the firm, Bess spent several years overseeing a team of three as the Vice President of a top Republican political consulting and fundraising firm in Washington, D.C. She oversaw day-to-day operations while conceptualizing and executing multi-million-dollar finance plans for a dynamic group of U.S. Senators during the 2016 cycle. She played a central role in the successful re-elections of Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Senator James Lankford (R-OK), Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Senator Rob Portman (R-OH.) Bess worked closely with Members and their senior staff to develop and implement comprehensive, cost effective fundraising campaigns unique to each race. A thorough understanding of regional issues paired with a constant pulse on the macropolitical political environment allowed her to deliver key support when it mattered most.
Bess started her career at a global public affairs firm headquartered in the Beltway, where she translated FCC and DOJ rulemaking to Fortune 500 technology companies. A Chicago native, Bess holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Missouri. She now lives in Kalorama with her 135lb Saint Bernard, Ella.
